2022 – week 4

Hadleigh Castle near sunset.

This is an interesting shot, in that how you see it will depend very much on how you have your monitor set up. I’ve viewed this picture on my main monitor, a tablet, my phone, and the TV. On some, the castle and foreground are much darker than on others.

This is one of the enduring problems with digital photography and presenting photographs online. You have no control over the output, whether that’s brightness or colour rendition. It doesn’t matter if you calibrate your own screen. The main value in calibrating your screen is to make prints, to ensure that the print matches what you’re seeing. Otherwise, it’s anyone’s guess how the viewer will see the shot.
