2024 – week 41

The Northern Lights were visible over Essex on Thursday, but I mostly missed it. I grabbed my camera and rushed to the nearest spot that I thought might give some foreground interest, but by the time I got there the display was mostly over.

I didn’t have time to get to a location with a dark enough sky, and, knowing that my chances of getting a good shot were slim, I didn’t take a tripod. This three second exposure relied heavily on image stabilisation and bracing the camera on a wall. There wasn’t even time to try different exposures.

Given all of that, I’m amazed I got anything!
